WordPress is basically making posting here impossible – every update takes about 24 hours to post, which doesn’t really work with a Bracket that is updated every day.
In fact, I’m writing this on Monday, knowing that most of you won’t be able to see it until Tuesday! It’s infuriating, but hey, baby animals still exist in the world, AND we have other ways of internetting.
So, follow along on Twitter and Facebook, and maybe someday I’ll get this site to work again.
All my love,
Jennifer Wade, Squee E. O.
It’s time for the Sweet Sixteen of Baby Animals! Remember, you’re voting for the photo. The idea behind Squee is that there is something fundamental about this particular image that elicits an exclamatory noise.
Tell us (until tonight at 10p Eastern) WHO IS MORE SQUEE.
THE BRACKET IS HERE!
Last year, one smart, squee-loving lucky winner won a membership to her local Zoo. Don’t you want to do the same? Submit your bracket prediction using this form, tweet us a photo of your bracket, or email it to us and tell us who you think will be the 2016 Squee Champion!
(Of course we expect you to be like us and have this printed, filled in, and hanging all over your offices).
Submissions will be open until 10pm Eastern (GMT-4) on Sunday, March 20.
Voting begins on Monday, March 21! Good luck, and Happy Squee Season!
We’ll get right to it: here are the last 4 contenders for 2016 Squee Champion!
1) our fuzzy local celebrity panda from the National Zoo;
2) this sleepy, snuggly polar bear from the Columbus Zoo;
3) a rowdy, wild fox from somewhere in the arctic;
4) this wee spotted octopus from Mote Aquarium.
We cannot even DEAL. This is going to be a tough year (but aren’t they all?)
Land-dwelling, marine, short, tall.
We love it all.
The next four contenders are:
1) This lanky giraffe from Taronga Western Plains Zoo;
2) A flower-sniffing Koala from Symbio Wildlife Park;
3) That sleeeeeeepy sea lion from the Whipsnade Zoo;
4) A sleek beluga whale from the Shedd Aquarium.
Four more adorables to add to the list of contenders:
1) a teeny tiny panther chameleon from Aqua Terra Zoo;
2) this intense great grey owl from the Hawk Conservancy Trust;
3) a fluffy red panda from the Auckland Zoo;
4) a mom-loving otter at Monterey Bay Aquarium.
Welcome to the 6th annual March Baby Animal Squee Madness Tournament! For the next four days, we’ll introduce the contenders who will battle it out for Squee Champion. Contenders are NOT presented in the order in which they’ll compete.
Like last year, you’ll be able to submit your brackets at the end of the week, and a winner will be chosen (from those who predict the closest) to receive a year’s membership to the Zoo or Aquarium of her/his choice. Questions? Refer to our FAQ, tweet us, or send us an email. Let’s go!!
The first four contenders for 2016 Champion are:
1) this delicate duiker from the Los Angeles Zoo;
2) that echidna on a mission from the Taronga Zoo;
3) that wee sea turtle from the Monterey Bay Aquarium;
4) that sassy swan from the Sao Paolo Zoo.
Wellington Zoo‘s Owl has done it! His adorable eyes and fluffy face peeking out of that bowl powered him past that Rhino’s amazing ears, and he has been crowned 2015 Squee Champion.
As for the brackets – every single one of the 61 brackets submitted were busted early on. We are thrilled to announce that the winner of a year’s membership to the Santa Barbara Zoo is Deborah Goss, Friend of Squee and Mom of Heather. Congratulations!!! Deborah tied with two others for the closest predictions, and we pulled her name randomly out of a mug.
Thanks to EVERYONE who voted, cheered, and trash-talked this year. And start sending in your nominations for #Squee16!
Update: Thursday, March 26: We’re down to two baby animals! And we can’t believe it’s come down to Rhino and Owl. VOTE NOW and help us determine the 2015 Baby Animal March Squee Madness Champion. Voting closes at 10p Eastern!
Update: Wednesday, March 25: Round Two results are in! And there’s even more heartbreak… I’m not afraid to tell you, there was some weeping for Koala and Red Panda at Squee HQ this morning, but we’re moving on. Who of the Final Four will make it to the Finals! VOTE NOW (until 10p Eastern)!
Update: Tuesday, March 24: Round One results are in!

PS: Don’t forget your sticker!
